We have, in recent weeks, seen the lack of consistency of scheduled opponents for many fighters, reasons for which are mainly due to injury or bans leaving the home fighter struggling for a challenge in the ring.
Another rescheduled heavyweight bout will take place this Saturday in Newcastle, this time for all the right reasons.
Nathan Gorman was due to lock horns with fellow Brit Nick Webb for the English title but when opportunity knocks, it opens doors and the traveller is looking to kick those doors down.
German Mohamad Soltby will now be the opposition and the title at stake is the vacant WBC international belt.
“Nick’s not injured, what happened was a better opportunity come to fight another unbeaten fighter who has a better record than Nick and in my eyes a better fighter than Nick. If someone said to you in my position, fight for an English title or fight for a belt what will give you a top fifteen ranking. A better opportunity came to me, that’s why I accepted it.”
There is always a risk when hijacking one blueprint to concentrate on conquering another so close to fight night.
“I knew something was in the pipeline. He’s a tall fella like Nick, a better boxer than Nick. Where Nick comes in with big wild punches he leaves himself in vulnerable positions, Mohamad is the much better boxer so it will be a lot better fight night in my opinion. Of course we have to go through different tactics because Mohamad is a different fighter to Nick. He picks his punches, he moves well. He’s a good boxer.”
Should Gorman continue his winning streak it puts him in a great position for the money fights and well on course for a world title shot.
“Winning that belt will put me right in the mix with the big names. I’ve got the platform with Frank Warren. It’s too big of an opportunity to miss.”
You can catch the fight live on BT sports and Boxnation this Saturday 11th November and remember this is heavyweight boxing so don’t blink, you might miss it.
