FightTalk.net had the pleasure of sitting down with the UK’s newest boxing promoter Al Siesta. Siesta who lives in my home town of Southampton, was born in Russia and moved to the UK twenty years ago.
“I am actually a musician by trade! Many years I have been producing music. Boxing forced itself into my life. For ten years I used to get gyms next to my recording studios. Then one day I thought this is a sign from god. Since i got into boxing four and a half years ago, I worked with David Avanesyan, who became WBA World champion and now Mairis Briedis who recently became WBC Cruiserweight World champion. I look after him in a full capacity; Adviser, manager and co-promoter. We have big plans for him” said Siesta.
Al Siesta’s first foray into life as a promoter starts tomorrow night in Southampton. An intriguing card with fighters from all over the World appearing at the O2 Guildhall. The show is to be televised in many parts of the World and features a WBO European Welterweight title fight between Kazakhstan’s Alexander Zhuravskiy and Manchester based Dutch fighter, Stephen Danyo. Undefeated light middleweights in Scotland’s Michael McGurk and former Kazakhstan amateur captain Yernar Yeshenov will be fighting for the WBC youth title. Yoann Kongolo, Michael Ballingall, Paul Kamanga and Luth Mtimkulu make up the undercard.
Siesta continued “It’s an incredible show, Southampton has never seen the WBO and WBC on a card. We are making a bit of history. I am very proud for Siesta Boxing, come and I’ll guarantee entertainment. Thrilling fights, 50/50 action, you will not regret it and I promise you’ll be back.”
